A Mother’s First Day of School Prayer

My baby left the house today for his first day in the First Grade. I can still close my eyes and relive holding him for the very first time. I open my eyes again and suddenly he is seven years old. The time goes by and our children grow in what feels like overnightFullSizeRender [94371]. It such an amazing journey to be a part of.

In honor of the first day of school and all the other parents out there, I wanted to share this “prayer” with you.  I can relate to it in every sense. The excitement, concern, curiosity, love, a little bit of heartbreak letting go, and of course hope.

We all want our children to succeeded. Today, I held back tears, put a big familiar smile on my face and whispered in my sweet boys ear “Mommy loves you and is very proud of you. Now go be a first grader!” Here is to many great FIRST days of school to come. Hug you baby tight and let them go conquer the world one grade at a time!

A Mother’s First Day of School Prayer….

“I wonder what you’re doing now,

And if everyone is treating you kind.

I hope there is a special person,

A nice friend that you can find.

I just wonder if the teacher knows

Just how special you are to me.

And if the brightness of your heart

Is something she can see.

I wonder if you are thinking about me,

And if you need a hug.

I already miss the sound of your voice

And how you give my leg a tug.

I wonder if you could possibly understand

How hard it is for me to let you grow

On this day know that my heart breaks

For this is the first step of letting you go.”
